Responsibilities of the Doctor

	Taking a patient drug history Performing the physical examination Making a medical diagnosis Prescribing appropriate drugs Monitoring a patient's responses to drugs Modifying the drugs and drug dosages as necessary
Some of these responsibilities are shared by nurses, such as taking a patient drug history and the monitoring of a patient's responses to drugs. In some states, nurse practitioners and physician assistants are also permitted to prescribe medications.
