This online tutorial focuses on the knowledge and skills needed for the safe administration of medications by the oral route. In addition, the program describes related medication routes, such as buccal and sublingual and reviews the procedures for administering drugs through nasogastric and gastrostomy tubes. The major intent is to explore an area of critical importance to nursing practice and patient care in an interactive and meaningful manner.
This tutorial contains six modules.The first three are instructional units, the fourth is a clinical application activity, the fifth discusses the "Do Not Use" list of abbreviations, and the final module is a test bank.
The tests in the test bank cover all of the tutorial modules. Students are given their test results at the completion of each test accompanied by correct answers and rationale. Instructor can use these tests as pre- or post-tests. Test scores can be used to monitor student progress and mastery of the subject matter. Test results are recorded in databases on the EDGT server and are available for retrieval and review by both instructors and students.
